Catastrophic Impairment Evaluations
Multidisciplinary evaluation under the SABS catastrophic impairment criteria.
Under the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule, certain injuries are designated "catastrophic," entitling the injured person to expanded benefit limits. Determination requires assessment by qualified clinicians applying the criteria set out in the Schedule.

- •Multidisciplinary assessment by appropriate combinations of specialists
- •Application of the criteria set out in subsection 3.1(1) of the SABS
- •Preparation of detailed individual specialist reports
- •Coordinated multidisciplinary opinion
- •Form OCF-19 (Application for Determination of Catastrophic Impairment)
Common Criteria Addressed
- •Paraplegia and tetraplegia
- •Severe impairment of ambulatory mobility
- •Loss of vision
- •Traumatic brain injury (using the Glasgow Coma Scale)
- •Mental and behavioural impairment combined with physical impairment
- •Whole Person Impairment of 55% or greater
